My husband and I visited Smith Island on one of our summer boat trips. We got up at dawn to watch the watermen going out for the day. As this photo started to unfold I thought of one of my favorite novels by Pat Conroy, Prince of Tides. Smith Island is an interesting place to visit, only available by boat and slowly eroding away, along with a way of life.
